WHO considers doping in society a global public health issue – hitting youth the hardest.
The Et Purus sculpture project was created to honor the rockstar of anti-doping in sports, looking back at his 40-50 years of devotion. As the project developed, the importance of the monument's message looking forward grew substantially. Today, doping is a public health issue worldwide. The use of doping substances in society is by far a more serious challenge than within sports. And the young generations are at the highest risk. Classical performance-enhancing drugs are now being used for image-enhancing purposes. Social media, streets and gyms are taking over sports' role as the playing field for unhealthy choices and chemical short-cuts to recognition, self-esteem, and fame.
SAFEGUARDING A LEGACY FOR THE FUTURE
Et Purus' role in bridging Professor Ljungqvist's legacy into the future is monumental. Thanks to generous partners' and friends' support, the project has been developed and finalized with respect, honor, and success. Two out of twenty monuments of the 2.01 meter limited series has been installed and unveiled. Having the monument Et Purus acknowledged by the world's largest sports entities – the International Olympic Committee (IOC), World Athletics (WA) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) manifests the importance of its existence for the world of sports. Major entities in the public societal sector – WHO, UNESCO and INTERPOL – has supported Professor Ljungqvist's mission for decades, and the support was confirmed officially in 2012 at Professor Ljungqvist foundation's symposium "Doping as a Public Health Issue" in Stockholm. Furthermore having the monument Et Purus No 1 unveiled by H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and Et Purus No 2 unveiled by H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden, have ensured the longterm potential for the monument and symbol to unify the sports world, the public sector and the business sector to work together for pure health and clean sports worldwide. Professor Ljungqvist's message to the world is undisputedly backed from top-down. And the recent heartful support from clean athletes – young and old – via personal video greetings at the unveiling of Et Purus in Stockholm, confirms that his legacy is also backed from the bottom-up.
THANK YOU ALL!
The list below is meant to salute partners and friends having provided funds, trust, and services that enabled Et Purus to transform from creative thoughts, drafts, and PDF presentations into magnificent bronze monuments. They believed in a bold dream at a very early stage – way before any tangible proof could be presented that the dream actually would or could be fulfilled.
